Town of Hamilton Waste Disposal Information

Wednesday: Weekly collection of garbage and recyclable materials including yard waste.

First Wednesday of Each Month: Refuse items including furniture, mattresses, appliances, tires with rims removed.

One plastic recycling bin is provided to each household in town. Recyclables should be mixed in the bin and placed at the curb. If you move, the bin should remain with the house. Damaged bins will be replaced.

Guide to Curbside Recycling Collection Services

WHAT CAN BE RECYCLED ...

Glass Bottles and Jars:
Discard caps, empty, rinse, and place in recycling bin.
Include only clear, green, and brown glass bottles/jars.
DO NOT include broken glass, light bulbs, window glass, mirrors, or drinking glasses.

Plastic bottles:
Discard caps, empty, rinse, and place in recycling bin.
Include only plastic milk, water, juice, soda, and laundry containers (#1 and #2 only).
DO NOT include oil containers, toys, margarine tubs, flower pots, plastic wrap or plastic bags.

Aluminum and Steel Food and Beverage cans:
Empty, rinse, and place in recycling bin. Crush to conserve space, if desired.
Include only beverage and food cans.
DO NOT include aluminum foil, spray cans, or other metal items.

Newspapers, Magazines and Catalogs:
Bundle or tie with twine. Can go inside or outside recycling bin
Include only newspapers and magazines.
DO NOT include thick catalogs (greater than 1/2 inch) or phone books.

Grass and Yard Waste:
Place in containers or biodegradable bags.
Include timber, twigs and tree branches less than 2 inches in diameter and less than 4 feet in length, tied in bundles of less than 3 feet in diameter.
DO NOT include tree trunks, stumps, or logs.
  Loudoun County Waste Disposal Services

Sanitary Landfill: The Loudoun County sanitary landfill is located four miles south of Leesburg. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 8:00AM to 4:00PM. The landfill accepts household refuse, construction debris, tires, yard waste, and scrap metal (fee services). In addition to these services, the landfill provides free disposal of certain household recyclables, used motor oil, anti-freeze, and auto batteries.

Directions: From Leesburg, follow Route 15 South past the Leesburg bypass, make left at traffic light about a quarter mile south onto Evergreen Mills Road. Follow Evergreen Mills Road Approximately 4 miles. The landfill will be on your right - look for blue "sanitary landfill" signs. (703) 771-5500

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal: Loudoun County holds several special collections for hazardous household waste such as paints, old fuels, poisons, and other household chemicals. For schedule information call the Office of Solid Waste Management.

Recycling Drop-Off Centers: The Loudoun County operates seven recycling centers located around the county that collect newspapers, magazines, catalogs, phonebooks, cardboard, glass, bottles, food and beverage cans, and plastic bottles.
